Obtaining a
commercial license on a light turbine helicopter such as the Eurocopter A-Star
or Bell 206 JetRanger is
desirable but very costly. Modern technology along with recent advances in
helicopter design have made the piston helicopter the popular choice for
helicopter training.
BC Helicopters has chosen the
Schweizer 300CBi as our first choice for flight training for the following
reasons...
-
IMPROVED HIRING STATS: The 300CBi with it's fully articulated rotor system
has similar design and flight characteristics to the most popular turbine
helicopters used in the helicopter charter industry. Bell, Eurocopter and
McDonald Douglas have all gone to the articulated multi-bladed rotor systems
making the 300CB the ideal training platform and increasing your eligibility on
entering the Helicopter charter market.
-
MODERN DESIGN: The 300CBi incorporates over 90 improvements over the
original Hughes 300 design. Modern design and carbon fiber components with
longer life retirement for components, make it more economical and increase
safety. The addition of fuel injection in 2003 has again widened the technology
gap between the CBi, the Robinson R22 and the much older Bell 47. Manufacturers
who for years have produced 2-blade designs have now switched to the higher
performance multi-blade design.
-
SAFETY: The 300CBi incorporates the latest safety and warning systems found
on all modern turbine helicopters such as magnetic chip detectors, high
temperature sensors and low fluid level warning lights. The forgiving flight
characteristics and superior autorotation capability of 300CBi have resulted in
the best
safety record for a light piston helicopter.
-
PERFORMANCE: Because of the 300CBi's fast cruise speed the student spends
less time traveling to training areas and more time learning advanced exercises.
It has the best power to weight ratio of any piston helicopter (similar to
modern turbines) making it capable of landing on the highest mountain peaks in
our area and giving the student the widest scope in varied terrain, levels of
learning and satisfaction in experiencing all a helicopter can do.
